This is my 4th year Birthday Party group sitting on the lawn of House #67 on Diaz Ave., Old Side. That's me - third from the left in the front row. I see Edgar Kane (house #10) last on the right. Sandy Balog (Diaz Ave.) is to the left of me. The three older girls in the back row from left to right are my sister Marlene Lipchinsky, neighbor Carol Buck and cousin Connie Descaro (House #77).
This is the east
side of the Old Side as seen from Ronco. I took this shot in 2001. You can see a red-sided house. It is on Foch Circle. Houses just above it are on Diaz Ave and then higher on East Wood Ave.
My sister Marlene played the organ during church services sometimes in Crucible and Rices Landing. I would go along instead of attending Mass in Nemacolin. It was a welcome change. I would have been 4 years old in 1948. Richard Novak was often the coordinator of which churches needed an organist and transportation. I later would sing on the Nemacolin church choir for many years. The choir loft was a good vantage point.
